Fragments of La Sagrada Familia

I'm not a big Gaudi fan, but you can't visit Barcelona without visiting at least one work by the Architect. Everyone knows the Sagrada Familia so I will just add photos of the pieces that interested me, which was mostly the juxtapostion of the scaffolding/building site along side the finished stained glass windows.

scaffolding in the centre of the church, just as majestic and beautiful as the finished stone pillars

light from a stained glass window falls on pillars and taupalin

glimpses of stained glass through scaffolding

Gaudi's model for arches and building stresses

The object above is my favourite 'find' in Barcelona, made of strings and little bags of lead shot, Gaudi used this system to help understand the stresses and weight distribution for his arches and pillars - you need to turn the photo upside down to 'see' the church structure better. It's so beautiful ...now, if all those little bags were pieces of stained glass.....

I love Barcelona and I love the last picture too! I think it would look gorgeous in porcelain clay too! :)

Ooh, it seems that Sagrada Familia is really a never ending project! I visited Barcelona maybe 8 years ago and they were constructing then as well;) But a great place to visit, as well as Barcelona all in all!
