some snowdrops from the garden

I picked some snowdrops today. The poor things have been buried under countless snowfalls and look so tired now - I know when I return from my trip next week they'll be all but gone from the garden.

Decorated with fabric flowers in shades of Hydrangea blue purples and green. I've added iridescent green flower sequins to the centre of each flower.

If you love ribbons and millinery flowers ...

then you will love Etsy shop Mary Not Martha, run by the lovely Suzi! I discovered this fab emporium last month when searching out some flowers for my garlands and have been back several times, buying up ribbons and flowers. Suzi deconstructs silk flowers and then over dyes the petals with colours created from organic flowers, vegetables, fruits and herbs mostly from her garden , before creating lush new blooms.

I'm sooo madly in love with her ribbons too - these really are as soft as silk and have a fabulous vintage feel. I can't quite describe it ...so think 1930's vintage camisole carefully wrapped in tissue paper for 70 years and you've just discovered it again ..... scrumptious!!!!

just some of the ribbons I received

and psst! she has a sale on right now!!!

You can check out my latest garland inspired by some of Suzi's flower's at my online shop here

Chateau Romance - glass garland

This one seemed to take FOREVER to make ...all that sewing of beads..not sure I'll be doing that again in a hurry! but I'm pleased with how it looks, soft and romantic. It would look great in a room in the same white / grey or dove grey colour scheme.

For this garland I've used :
♥ lightly textured medium grey glass
♥ antiqued copper patina
♥ entwined ribbons of organza and grey satin
♥ glass morning glory flower beads in a smoky grey and filigree
♥ 9 white fabric flowers which I've handsewn with beads in silvery and charcoal grey
♥ decorative bird in white
♥ beautiful, large acrylic prisms
♥ antiqued copper filigree

This garland is available in my Etsy shop here

Les Romantiques - a mirrored glass garland

A little late for Valentine's, but what the heck, flowers and hearts should be for every day of year :)

The mirrors are embellished with deep red glass and filigree beads, and tied with a rich red velvet and a golden ochre ribbon.

Decorated with pretty paper / fabric rosebuds.

The ends of the garland are finished with silvery puffed hearts (I love these - I found them in Chambery last month when we were waiting for the carnival to start, I had been looking for a smaller alternative to the antique keys and these are just so sweet and perfect. Normally I just go into that shop and sigh and whimper over all the beautiful treasures, and the shopowner is always so patient with me....so it was nice to make a little purchase for a change!), and a little nosegay of rosebuds with filigree detail.

You can find "Les Romantiques" in my Etsy shop here!

More Little Boudoir Mirrors

Bouyed on by the fact that one of my little mirrors was on Etsy front page 3 times in less than 18 hours on Monday, and by the great feedback, not to mention encouraging sales and a few orders I've had for these pieces, I've been making a few more and planning many !. "Make lots before you get bored" said Ira, aaah she knows me too well :)

And thank you Fleurfatale for featuring one of the boudoir mirrors on her blog. I like her idea of using the little mirror on her stall at craft fairs!! hmmm ...I can see marketing opprtunities :D - read Fleurfatale's blog here!

These two are available online at the moment. They are adorned with a mix of vintage and contemporary lucite and glass beads and cabochons.....and ribbon.....obviously :)

Little Boudoir Mirrors ...

I designed these little mirrors to originally have opaque glass frames but I realised I prefer them with just the shaped mirror glass and some cabochons. What I love about making new little pieces is how they set you mind racing with other, bigger ideas (alas, if only I could get the rest of me to follow up with action just a swiftly!) I'll try to blog about the new piece I'm think about over the next few weeks and maybe that'll encourage me on :)

I digress, the little boudoir mirrors...little mirrors for a boudoir...or indeed mirrors for a little boudoir..as you wish. I wanted them to be sweet and girly but not too large (they average 10cm x 9 cm) to be sickly and garish...

Each arrives in their new home in a beribboned gift box. This coming week I am dedicating my time to making an array of these little pieces, so please keep checking my online shop for new ones

The Dressing Room

Another mirrored garland, for this one I embellished the glass with grey acrylic and filigree pear drop beads, and tied with a pale mellow pink ribbon entwined with a pearl grey broderie anglaise 'ribbon'

It's further decorated with a little silver-glittered and tea-stained bird, some vintage pink glass buttons (bought at the famous "Les Puces" flea market in Paris) and pretty shabby chic millinery roses and rosebuds in beige, pale pink and cream.

The ends of the garland are finished with silvery puffed hearts, and beige millinery roses with filigree detail.
